Spanish Class

Hola! My name is Macarena Soza and I will be your child’s teacher for the Spanish class at St. Monica Parish School this year. I was raised in Chile. I’ve been teaching for 16 years and I look forward to sharing my native language and culture with your children.

Throughout the session, we will be using an interactive approach to language learning. Using the theory of the Natural Approach (second language is acquired in much the same way we all learned our first) and the Total Physical Response method of language teaching, our class will be a busy and active one. Please remember as the year progresses that in learning, comprehension precedes speech production. This means that, especially in the beginning your child will understand more words in Spanish than he or she will be able to produce. Try to also remember that translation is not necessarily indicating a lack of understanding.

In class we’ll be following a few rules of conduct in order to focus our attention on language learning. My expectations are as follows:

  • Show respect for others

    • Keep your hands to yourself

    • Do not interrupt someone who is speaking

    • Never make fun of another student

  • Help and encourage others in class

I look forward very much to making this experience an exciting and rewarding one for each child in the class.

I invite you to participate in  “Learning a new language” with your children.

Please don’t hesitate to send me an email msoza@stmonicasea.org  and I will promptly answer.

Muchas gracias,
Macarena Soza
