School Commission Meeting

April 17^th, 2008

Principals Report: Pam Dellino

Current enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year is at 235 students.  There is space available in the following grades:

1^st – 5

3^rd – 3

5^th – 2

6^th – 1

8^th - 10

All our staff is returning for next year.

The accreditation process is well underway for next year.  School parents, faculty, staff, and students will all be asked to participate in an on line survey.  The information will appear in the newsletter and all parent email.  On October 15^th there will be a pre visit, following with the November 19, 20, 21 accreditation team visit. 

Budget/Finance:  Peter Schmidt, David Lockhart, Scott Martin, Chris Vacca

Tuition costs for next year have been lowered.  The school 2008-2009 budget was set on a projected enrollment of 225 students and a 15% increase in benefits/insurance costs.  Due to our higher enrollment levels and a lower cost increase in the benefits,  a new tuition break down will be issued.  A letter will be coming out soon from Mrs. Dellino with the needed information.  We still have a strong budget base for the 2008-2009 school year with the new decrease. 

Development: Connie Anastasi

The Endowment Fund balances is currently at $713,000

Phon a thon pledge reminders have gone out for the unfulfilled pledges. Please check with your company to see if they offer a “matching funds” program.  We have received over $18,000 in matching funds from various companies.

Preschool Update:  Chris Vacca

The projected date for the preschool is September 2009.  After school care can begin in the building upon completion.

 They are currently reviewing bids from two modular companies as well as a stick construction bid.  Tom Holland is working on the permitting process and site studies. 

Golf Tournament:  Chris Vacca

The Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, September 22^nd at Glendale Country Club.  Plans are moving along and this should be another successful event.

Discernment Committee:  Becky Lindahl

The discernment committee is putting together expectations for future and current school commission members.  There will be a clear expectation of time and committee involvement.  There will be 4-5 positions open for the next three year term. 

New Business

Parking Lot Safety:  There have been some safety concerns in the lower parking lot during after school pick up.  The lower lot should not be used for general everyday pick up.  The parking lot is not monitored, cars are not parking in spaces and safety is an issue.  Please use the upper parking lot area for after school pick up.  The pick up line moves quickly and is safer.

Kindergarten Schedule:  The Kindergarten schedule has been changed for next year.  The first two weeks in September will be half days, 8:30-11:30.  They will then change to the regular school schedule.  The first Friday of each month will be a full day. The 2^nd, 3^rd & 4^th Friday will be an 11:30 dismissal.
