Dear St. Monica School Families,
Much is going on at St. Monica School!  Lots of activity and learning is happening in every corner.  The teachers and students are very hard at work.  There is wonderful energy in our classrooms as we head into the fall season!

Take a Peek:  We were privileged to have our Sparrow family join us last week as well as the head of the Sparrow Club Foundation, Jeff Leeland.  The children and the staff enjoyed meeting little Luke and they are already coming up with ideas of ways to help him…The 8th grade retreat was a great success and we were blessed to have Father Maurice Mamba celebrated a beautiful Mass with us. This truly set the tone for a wonderful day of preparation for our students leaders…October is the month of the rosary and we begin each day with intercom morning prayer by saying a decade together…The “Living Rosary” is set for October 29th…Classrooms are buzzing with auction project activity…Kindergarten students began full days this week J…Speech Team and Chess Club are both up and running…Math tutor buddies will begin shortly…and sooooooo much more!

Special congratulations to the September students that received awards for having “Hearts of Gold”. We are very proud of you! You can check out who these “models of charity and love” were for this past month on a list enclosed in today’s packet.

Auction Update:  November 8th and 10th are the parish auctions! Save the date and send in your reservations now. Auction donations can be dropped off in the school office. Every school family is obligated to turn in an item or donation valued at $150.00 per the school contract. Most of all, your presence at the auctions is needed. Let’s join together to make this a great event for all!

**Please join us this week for our First Friday 9:30 AM Mass on October 5th!!

As always, I am just a phone call or an email away and my door is always open!

May God bless you and those you love!

Dear St. Monica School Families,
Yesterday we were visited by our new “sparrow” child, Luke Smith, and his family! Luke was born in January with a serious heart condition. He has already had several surgeries in his young life and still has more to come. The founder of the Sparrow Club Foundation, Jeff Leeland, also visited and helped us kick off our 5th year as a Sparrow Club school! We are thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to support this family over the course of the coming school year. Please keep little Luke and his family in your prayers!

Important Letter from the Mercer Island Public Library:
I have been in discussion with the head librarians at the Mercer Island Public Library regarding the inappropriate and unacceptable behavior of some of our students when they spend time there during after school hours. This is not a new problem, but rather, one that has been escalating over the last couple of years in spite of their efforts as a staff and many reminders from the school about proper behavior. Included in today’s family packet is a very serious and important letter from the head librarians. If you send your children to the library after school, or at any other time unsupervised, then it is imperative that you read this letter and discuss its message as a family.

Those in charge of the library are very happy to welcome our students, but it is their expectation that our students will behave respectfully.  I know you and I share the same expectation. Please remind your children that they represent our school when they patronize the library and they must be mindful of this responsibility. I look forward to an improved relationship between the Mercer Island Public Library and those students that visit on a regular basis. I trust that they will not abuse this privilege.  Thank you for your support of this very important matter!

As always, I am just a phone call or an email away and my door is always open!

May God bless you and those you love!
