"Where charity and love prevail there God is ever found..."

From the Desk of Mrs. Dellino, Principal

April 30, 2008

Dear St. Monica School Families,

As the faculty and staff continue with the self-study portion of the accreditation process in preparation for the formal visit in November, we are now at the stage where we are asking for community feedback. This week faculty, staff, and students will be going online to complete surveys regarding St. Monica School. There is a survey designed specifically for school parents and we ask that you join us by going to the website listed below to answer a few questions. It should take approximately 15 minutes of your time. Your input is extremely valuable to the ongoing school improvement process. Thank you in advance for your wonderful support!

Congratulations Teachers:  Two of our staff members were awarded Archdiocesan Fulcrum Foundation grants for next school year! The recipients are 3rd grade teacher, Jennifer Arthur, and Technology Specialist, Pat Porter. Mrs. Arthur will use her grant award to enhance her classroom reading program with a listening center designed to improve reading fluency, comprehension, and self esteem. Mrs. Porter will use her grant award to improve technology for our entire school by implementing and managing a program called School Web Lockers which will facilitate curriculum communication between teachers and students. Congratulations to these teachers for following through with their creative ideas to enrich the curriculum at St. Monica School!

Congratulations Students:  We are proud of all of our students, but this past week some of our middle school students have been stand-outs!!

Congratulations to the following 7th graders who were recognized last week at an Archdiocesan Student Recognition ceremony at St. James Cathedral:

  • Leadership in Academic Achievement: Jackie Welsh and Lindsay White

  • Leadership in Co-Curricular Participation: Joe Rasmussen

  • Leadership in Community Building & Service: Stephanie Carl and Zane Khatib

Special Congratulations to our 8th grade girls’ volleyball team for ending an 11-0 season by winning the AA Volleyball Championship! Way to go: Gemma, Sarah B., Lauren, Alexei, Kayla, Amanda, Katherine, Annie, Alexis, Mariam, Brenna, Katie and Sarah P.  Congrats to coaches Jackie Balinbin and Therese Rehn!! Great teamwork!!!

School Commission:  It is the time of year when we ask for those interested in serving on the School Commission to step forward.  We ask you to prayerfully “discern” your willingness to volunteer for a three year term as part of an advisory group to the Principal and Pastor. Please contact Becky Lindahl at rabyus@comcast.net   if you are interest in taking part in the discernment process.

As always, I am just a phone call or an email away and my door is always open!

May God bless you and those you love!
