The President’s Challenge

Each year all students will have an opportunity to take the “President’s Challenge”, a set of physical tests which give a general idea of their fitness level relative to the norms established by the President’s Council on fitness and sports. The tests include the following and will be given twice each year:

Each student has a card with their scores for each time they took the test through eighth grade.

The students’ performance has no impact on their academic grade rather I hope the test is a chance for the students demonstrate their abilities or perhaps to goal-set to improve in an area.

The preparation for the test in PE class varies; from a regular routine of abdominal strengthening exercise, push-ups and flexibility each day in PE to a three period preparation for the mile run with instruction, strategy, and practice in aerobic running. The shuttle run is not trained for in PE class.

The reward is in satisfaction at a level achieved, an improvement in area or areas, and a certificate for those reaching an established norm in all tests.
