FIELD DAY EVENT DESCRIPTION 2007
STATION #1: Shooting gallery pin knock down, set back up. (IN THE FAMILY CENTER)
Equipment: 65 Bowling pins already set up. 4 buckets of tennis balls. Tag board to record most pins knocked down and fastest clean-up.
Object: As a family knock down as many of the pins as you can with the tennis balls from behind the line. After you knock them down, how long does it take your family to set them back up and put all the balls in the buckets.
Organization: Divide the family into two groups k-3 and 4-7. Have the younger kids start, throwing from behind a shorter line for 30 seconds, than have the older group go. (Should be an instant switch). They go for 1 minute total. Count how many pins they knock down (altogether) and record. Then time them in setting up the pins, picking up the balls and sitting on the line.
Record.
You may have time to do it twice but make sure there is enough time (usually about 2 minutes for them to set them back up.
STATION #2: Relay Bowling Challenge(IN THE GYM)
Equipment: 4 sets of bowling pins and 4 balls.
OBJECT: Teams start with one pin. Goal is to knock down all ten pins.
ORGANIZATION: Students put into groups of four with their different grade buddies. Four students are at each set of pins, one bowler two setters and an on deck bowler.. Activity starts with one student rolling at one ball, if they are successful in knocking over the pin another pin is added for the next bowler, if not the next bowler rolls at the number standing until they are knocked down. The relay continues like this until all ten pins are up and knocked down. Each students turn consists of one roll. Setters keep pins in area and reset after each bowler. Add one pin if all are knocked down that the bowler started with. Setters and bowlers trade off as long as time permits.
Kindergarten & 1st grade bowl from Blue tape, 2nd , 3rd and 4th from Red, 5th-7th from green line.
Station #3: Target Disk throwing:
Equipment: 12 Foam disks, 2 garbage cans, 2 plastic bins, 4 hula hoops.
Object: To get as many point as you can with your three Frisbee tosses.
Organization: Get them into three equal lines. Each student will have a chance to throw three disks at the targets, six hula hoops( worth one point if it lands inside) 3 plastic bins (worth three points) and 2 garbage cans (worth 5 points). Should have three going at once. K-3 behind black line, 4-7 behind green line. Parent helpers and throwers retrieve disks and hand them to the next person.
STATION #4: 100 Yard dash relay (IN PARKING LOT WEST END)
Equipment: Stopwatch, 2 batons, cones (2), chart, pen.
Object: Option #1- This race is a cooperative relay which family can have the best time in the relay with a baton. Option #2-Have students run individually 3-4 at a time and record their best time.
Organization: For the first race, have the students line up single file in one line. On the signal to start, the first student runs to the cone and back (they must go around the cone). The next student in line cannot start until the baton is handed to them. The race is finished when everyone has had a turn. Record the number of students in the family and the time to finish the race on the chart. Teams can have more than one time to better their time.
If time permits run the students individually and record their scores on a chart.
STATION #5: SHOE KICK
Equipment : Rope to mark the starting line. Old shoes for students may not wanr to kick their own.
Object: To “kick” your shoe the farthest distance.
Organization: The students untie one shoe and hang it from their toes. One by one, each student gets to “kick” his/her shoe for distance. After all students have had a turn, the students gather their shoes and repeat the contest using the opposite foot.
STATION #6: Aqua Ball Launch (IN PARKING LOT SOUTH END)
Equipment: Super sling shot. Aqua balls (4), Buckets of water (3)
Object: Each student will attempt to launch an Aqua ball into the parking lot. Students in the parking lot may attempt to catch the aqua ball and get one point for doing so. The launcher gets a point if on one catches the aqua ball.
Organization: Divide the group into two groups. One group will be the launchers and the other group is out in the field trying to catch the launched aqua ball. Each student will have one turn before switching roles. Repeat if time permits.
STATION #7:FACE PAINTING
Equipment: 8 chairs and face painting material.
Object: Have a fun design put on your face.
Organization: Face painting will be in the. The 7th grade will man that station. Students will be painted and watch the designs being put on the other students.
Station #8 Refreshments and Family Pictures
Equipment: Drinks, cups, table, trash can, instant camera.
Object: This is a refreshment break and a time to pose for team picture
Organization: This is a time to allow those who are still getting face painted to finish while the other students get some refreshments. Try to round them all up for a family picture in order to get them ready to head to the next station.
STATION #9: Obstacle course(ON GRASS PLAYGROUND)
Equipment: Poly Spots (10), Hurdles(2), 10 cones (6), foam noodles (2), jump ropes (4), mats (2), footballs (2), stopwatch.
Object: Relay race. To be the first team to complete the course.
Organization: Divide the group into two relay teams. Students must knock over the comes on the poly spots, crawl, under the tunnel, roll on a mat, jump over a hurdle and leap over a river (two jump ropes), run around a cone and go back while carrying a football. The next student cannot start until the football has been handed off to him. Which team can finish first? Option 2: time how long it takes to complete the course and try to better the time if time permits.
STATION #10: Tug of War(ON GRASS PLAYGROUND)
Equipment: Tug of War rope, cones to mark the point to be pulled to.
Object: To pull the opposing team past a certain point marked on the field.
Organization: Divide the group evenly according to grades. Have more than one tug if time permits, you might trade girls or boys or grades to other side but always trade at least three students across.
Younger kids should be in front, no one should be wrapped in rope and please remind students to not let go when tug is finished.
STATION # 11: Sack race / Three legged race (ON GRASS PLAYGROUND)
Equipment: Burlap bags, cones to mark start and finish.
Object: Relay race-one point is scored for each student completing the race in a given time.
Organization: Divide the group into two or three relay teams. On the signal to start, the first person in line steps into the sack and jumps to the cone. Once at the cone, the person steps out of the sack and runs back with the sack to his team. One point is earned when this happens. Continue until time is called. 2-4 minutes.
After the sack race, run the three legged race. Each student needs a partner (hopefully close in size). The partners stand side by side, placing one leg in the sack. Together they “run” to the cone and back. When this happens one point is scored. Continue until time is called 2-3 minutes
STATION #12: Water Relay (IN PARKING LOT OUTSIDE EAST GYM DOORS)
Equipment: 2 sponges 1 pail of water and two smaller containers..
Object: Which team can collect the most water in the container?
Organization: Divide the group into two teams. Each team member stands in a straight line. side At the head of the line is a bucket filled with water. At “GO” the first team member dips their groups sponge into the bucket and then hands the sponge over their head to the person standing behind them, that persons hands the sponge between their legs to the person behind them and so on down the line. The end person then pours what is left in the sponge in the container and heads to the front on the line to dip the sponge. This goes on for at least 3-4 minutes, whoever has collected the most water in their container is the winner. Measure to see who has the most inches in the container.
STATION #13: Quick Draw (OUTSIDE EAST GYM DOOR)
Equipment: Spray bottles filled with water (4), Empty Soda Pop bottle filled with sand, Ping Pong balls (4), Bucket of water (refill for spray bottles)
Object: To shoot the ping ball off of the top of the empty soda pop bottle. (Remove the cap and set the ping pong ball on top.)
Organization: Have the students line up in single file in four lines (4 teams). The first person in each line lies on their stomach 6-10 feet away depending on pressure of spray bottle) and tries to knock the ping pong ball off the top of the bottle by squirting water at the ball. The first one to do this earns a point for their team. After a ball is knocked off the next person in each line goes. You might change the order of the lines after a few times through.
You also might set a time limit and let them shoot until they each shoot the ball off and then let the next person go, keeping track of how many balls each team knocks off in a minute or two minute period.
