What is the curriculum?
6th,7th General Mathematics
1. Students analyze number relations and compute with integers, decimals and fractions.
2. Students apply problem solving skills throughout the curriculum including use of customary and metric units of measure.
3. Students apply number theory using divisibility rules, prime factorization, comparing and ordering fractions and decimals.
4. Students write, solve and apply basic probability problems, two step equations and inequalities.
5. Students use concepts of ratio and proportion to solve application problems.
6. Students explore the relationships between percent,decimals and fractions.
7. Students will analyze the properties of plane and 3D geometric figures. Students will compute perimeter, area, surface area and volume.
Pre-Algebra and Algebra 7th and 8th graders
Students will develop knowledge of algebraic functions and the use of the graphing calculator .
1. Solving two and three step equations.
2. Solving % equations.
3. Solving and graphing inequalities.
4. Solving absolute value equations.
5. Graphing and writing linear equations.
6. Solving systems of equations.
7. Solving exponential and radical functions.
8. Working with polynomials and rational expressions
9. Exploring right triangles.
Criteria for the accelerated pre-algebra and language arts classes 2007-2008
For students completing 6th grade entering 7th
1. A majority of the concepts are mastered.
Evidenced by a successful 6th grade year in language arts and mathTest scores from end of year tests and ITBS, class standing, GPA and assessment
2. The student is self-motivated and self-disciplined.
Work has been turned in on time
The student is prepared for class
3. Consistent effort has been displayed.
4. The student is willing to accept a challenge and run with it.
5. More than aptitude is involved in the placement.
Classroom behavior is an important factor (See #2)
6. The above criteria will be reviewed in six weeks to determine continued eligibility in math and language arts for this placement and may be re-evaluated at any time.
