6th Grade Mathematics
Overall goal: To develop conceptual understanding of mathematics, and to develop procedural fluency in computations and in word problems.
1. Students analyze number relations and compute with integers, decimals and fractions.
2. Students apply problem solving skills throughout the curriculum including use of customary and metric units of measure.
3. Students apply number theory using divisibility rules, prime factorization, comparing and ordering fractions and decimals.
4. Students write, solve and apply basic probability problems, two step equations and inequalities.
5. Students use concepts of ratio and proportion to solve application problems.
6. Students explore the relationships between percent, decimals and fractions.
7. Students will analyze the properties of plane and 3D geometric figures. Students will compute perimeter, area, surface area and volume.
