Curriculum Overview

Below is an overview of what I expect from your child this year

Students from kindergarten through 8th grade will have a number of projects that will help them understand the various art elements and principles listed below:

Elements:

  • Line
  • Form
  • Color

  • Texture

Principles:

  • Unity

  • Emphasis
  • Movement

The art program for kindergarten through 5th grade is project based. Students will be working on assignments and projects coordinated with their homeroom teacher that will emphasize many areas of the curriculum. This should build a strong support for all levels of learning as well as enrich every subject theme.

The goal for students in grades 6th through 8th is to study the elements and principles and to produce works of art that demonstrate their proficiency for using a variety of tools, materials, and techniques. The students will use their knowledge of the elements and principles in solving artistic problems and analyzing works of art. At this level the students are given more advanced exposure to various mixed media and then asked to create ideas with the support of their teachers and peers.

Art is an exciting opportunity for all to have fun!
