Textbooks- Writer’s Choice

There are two main focuses of 6^th grade Language Arts: 

1.)    To help each student be able to recognize and utilize the relationship between grammar and writing.

2.)    To instill a positive desire for writing in each student.

Topics of study:

-       Paragraphs

-       Grammar (nouns, verbs etc.)

-       Public speaking/ speech

-       5 paragraph essay

-       Persuasive writing

-       Expository writing

-       7 traits of writing

-       Poetry

Additional curriculum:

• Spelling

• Wordly Wise

• Keyboarding/ computer skills

Language Arts and math classes at the 6^th grade level are divided into two groups. 

• This offers a smaller teacher to student ratio, presenting students with opportunities for more one-on-one help from teachers.

• The division is determined by the 5^th and 6^th grade teachers, and is based on behavior and group dynamics.
